A
process addiction is an addiction to an activity or process, such as
eating, spending money, or gambling. In this one-hour presentation, Dr.
Marcia Nickow and Roseann Rook will discuss process addictions that may
either co-occur with eating disorders or emerge during the eating
disorder recovery process.
Additionally,
the presentation will address underlying trauma often associated with
process addictions as well as the benefit of group psychotherapy and
12-step fellowships.
About the Presenters
At
Timberline Knolls, Dr. Nickow oversees a clinical team of primary
therapists, substance abuse specialists, eating disorders treatment
specialists and others. She also conducts intensive individual, family
and group psychotherapy with adults and adolescents. Dr. Nickow is
currently co-authoring a manual for the American Group Psychotherapy
Association on group psychotherapy for the treatment of process
addictions.
Roseann
conducts assessments, facilitates both educational and process-oriented
groups, and meets with residents individually at Timberline Knolls. She
focuses on relapse prevention and 12-step work in addiction treatment
and co-occurring disorders, such as process
addictions, cross addictions or eating disorders.
